Hello,
I have a Primera SE which I bought from you. It is now out of warranty, however. I recently sent you an email concerning the ink I bought from you - support ticket 1489 - my printer was printing very faintly. The printer is now not working at all. Once I switch it on it just blinks and when I try and print something I get a message saying the software cannot communicate with the printer.
So, I need to send the printer to you so you can fix it.
Please give me details as to what to do.

From the sounds of your error you might well need to do a manual clean of the cartridge (as well as through the printing preferences).

If that does not work - do you have a secondary cartridge you would be willing to open to see if the fault is with the cartridge or the unit?

Hi David,
I tried using several new cartridges and they were all the same - faint printing. As I said in my last message, the printer just blinks now when I turn it on and when I try and print anything my computer says it cannot establish a connection with the printer.
I need to send the printer to you so you can sort the problem out. Please advise.

Hi Simon, as discussed on the phone, we are happy to examine your unit despite it being outside its warranty period. There is a £50 evaluation fee to diagnose the fault. If you decide to go ahead with the repairs (after you've been sent a quote for parts/labour) the evaluation fee will be removed from your bill.
Please also be aware that if you are NOT sending the unit back in its original packaging, CD-Writer.com can accept no responsibility for damaged caused to the unit in transit (either to or from our Greenwich facility).
Currently the estimated repair time is 10-14 working days.

I've examined your unit and believe I have identified the fault. The cost of repair on your unit will be £47 + VAT. This includes delivery of the machine back to yourself.

It seems the unit just needed cleaning in some of the more vital areas of the printer, and a firmware update was required to get the machine up and running.
I have successfully printed more than 20 discs using surething CD labeller.
The £47+ VAT is essentially the price for one hours labour and for shipping the unit back to you.

Was there an ink cartridge already in the machine which you used to print the discs? Because that was one of the cartridges that was printing very faintly. Just want to check. If you've done everything that needs doing please let me know how to pay. Does the postage cover insurance in case it gets lost or damaged?

There was not an ink cartridge in the machine when it arrived, I used a test cartridge I had here to print some discs with your unit. I'll send a few samples back so you can see the results.
I will raise an official quote for you, but the best way to pay would probably be over the phone with your credit/debit card.
The items are insured up to a maximum of £12 per kilo. However all items need to be checked at the time of delivery, and signed for as damaged if indeed that is the case, or a claim can not be made.
You have all original packaging for the unit though, so I'm confident the unit will be safe in transit. it will also be issued with a tracking number, so even if it does get lost - it should be relatively easy to find out where its ended up!
