was recently asking via online support about printing LightScribe labels and was given to understand that these have to be generated from .hgo files. After much searching on the web I am so far unable to etsablish the identity of any software capable of creating these files. As a result I cannot use my duplicator to its full intended purpose. Could you please point me in the right direction.
Regards,
Andrew
Hi Andrew,
The software to create your HGO files was sent out with your duplicator.
You should have two discs - one with the Lightscribe Template labeller for PC, and the other with Nero Burning Rom. There should also be a installation and usage guide to assist you with the burning. Do you no longer have these software discs? If not, i will try and source a replacement for you.
Kind Regards,
David

Hi David,
Thanks for the reply. I've checked and it would appear that I never received the two CDs. The only documentation I received was a generic user guide that does not even cover LightScribe printing. I would be grateful if you could therefore arrange to send the missing material.
Also just to put me fully in the picture, is the support for HGO files something that came new with Nero 8? I've already got Nero 7 and there appears to be no reference there to HGO files.
Regards,
Andrew.

Hi Andrew,
i'm sorry to hear the discs were not included with your purchase, I hope this hasn't proved too much of an inconvenience for you. I will arrange for my colleages to send them out this evening.
Regarding the HGO files - these are actually a series of files created by the Lightscribe Template Labeller. HGO is just a file extension that can be read by the duplicator tower and converted into a print image.
The only reason you need to use nero, is to burn these HGO files to the root of a CD.
I hope that helps clarify things for you.
Kind Regards,
David

Hi David. Could you please confirm that the items have been dispatched. Can I expect them to come by normal post?
Regards, Andrew.

Hi Andrew, I've forwarded your query to my colleagues. As far as I'm aware the discs have left yes. I have just compiled an E-mail that now has the software available online, so I will forward that to you now. It should be enough to get you up and running while you wait for the disc.
Kind Regards,
David

Hi David. Thanks for the files. I've tried them out but have had problems. Used online support chat yesterday (Friday) - very helpful but no solution found as yet. I thought I would write to you on this ticket as I'm not sure when I will get time to go back on to online chat.
Basically the LightScribe Template Labeler is not offering the facility to print to *.lsi files, but only offers the ability to print to the LightScribe drive that happens to be installed in my computer. Tried installing the software on my Laptop (where there is no LightScribe drive) and everything is greyed out not allowing any print facility at all. Tried re-installing under various conditions including an alternative version from the VinPower web site (as advised during the online chat) but still to no avail.
The question that has arisen in my mind is this - Is the interface allowing output to *.lsi files built into the Template Labeler itself or is there some missing component that also needs to be installed?
Please can you help? Regards, Andrew.

Hi Andrew,
That is a bit of a mystery. Once you have upgraded the software you should have "Lightscribe Duplicator Label Writer" as an option, or for the older version of the software it will say "VINPOWER".
This is the first I've heard of this problem, so I'm going to have to contact Lightscribe directly to see what solution they suggest.
I'll let you know as soon as possible.
Kind Regards,
David

Hi Andrew,
One more thing I just noticed. You said the print option was grayed out on the laptop. As default, the Lightscribe software loads but without displaying a template. You have to select one from the list on the left to enable the "printing" facility.
Once one of those is selected, you should be able to print to one of the "drives" as mentioned in my previous message.
Let me know if that helps.
Kind Regards,
David

Hi David. Thanks for the two replies and for making further investigation. Look forward to hearing from you again in due course. Perhaps I did not explain properly about the laptop. It is because there are no drives available in the drop down list (as there is no physical LightScribe drive present) that the "Print" button is permanently greyed out. Thanks. Andrew.

Sorry it's been a while since we've had any contact, but I've been pre-occupied by a number of other things recently. Just wondered if there was ever any progress with regards to contacting LightScribe directly. Please let me know. Thanks, Andrew.

Hi Andrew,
I have had a response from lightscribe, but they said this is a problem they have not really come across before.
They advised that you completely remove any reference to Lightscribe software from your Add/Remove programs list, and install version 2 from the file I sent you.
During the installation, you will be prompted to install some "compatible" drives. This will appear as a pop up box with two columns. There will be a list of drives in the left column, two arrows at the centre, and a list on the right.
If any drive names appear on the right hand column, highlight them and click the arrow that points to the left. This should move it to the column on the left.
You then need to look through that list, and find a drive (should be a Lite-On) that ends with the numbers 169. Click on this drive to highlight it, then click the Right arrow to move that drive into the column on the right.
You can then continue with the installation. Please try this and see if it helps remedy the problem you are having.
Kind Regards,
David
